OPSBA Launches Four New Professional Development Modules for Trustees

All 14 previous modules have been updated for 2015

In September, the Ontario Public School Boards’ Association joined with partner school boards and trustee associations to provide enhancements and additions to the Trustee Professional Development Program. The updated professional development modules are available online at http://modules.ontarioschooltrustees.org/. This initiative is part of OPSBA’s ongoing priority goal of building leadership capacity among trustees and was supported by Ontario’s Ministry of Education.

The modules have been designed specifically for trustees and school board officials, to offer decision-makers the practical knowledge they need to govern school boards effectively and confidently.

Eighteen learning modules on topics including governance, community engagement, finance, labour relations and social media can be found online. The information is presented in easy-to-use, downloadable learning modules, videos and PDFs. The modules condense challenging information and present the topics in an engaging way that is intended to build knowledge and skills and support trustees in their diverse roles.

All of the existing modules have been updated for 2015 to reflect recent legislative and policy changes. We have also added four new modules:

  • What Makes a Great Board Chair?
  • First Nation Trustees: Leading in Two Worlds
  • Developing a Code of Conduct for Trustees
  • Social Media

We invite you to visit OPSBA’s Professional Development website at http://modules.ontarioschooltrustees.org/ today to browse the professional development modules.
