Toronto, August 25, 2006- At the 2006 Annual General Meeting in Ottawa, the members of the Ontario Public School Boards’ Association (OPSBA) unanimously approved the inclusion of the position of First Nations Director on the OPSBA Board of Directors.
OPSBA is pleased to announce that Grace Fox has been elected as First Nations Director. Cindy Fisher, a trustee from Superior-Greenstone District School Board, was elected as Alternate.
In taking on her new role, Grace Fox said: “I have a passion for education and for the rights of First Nation children and I will use it to ensure that our children experience achievement, a sense of belonging and, above all, respect in Ontario schools.”
Grace Fox’s service and contributions to the education of First Nations students are outstanding. Grace has served in Federal, First Nations, and Provincial schools both at the elementary and secondary levels as a teacher, principal and director of education. She holds a Supervisory Officer’s certificate for the Province of Ontario and currently sits as a trustee on the Rainbow District School Board.
OPSBA looks to the coming years as an unparalleled opportunity to work with First Nation educators and communities to strengthen public education for First Nations students. The OPSBA Board of Directors will draw on Grace’s expertise as an educator and leader to guide the system into the future.
