Nearly three decades ago, when the Ontario Public School Boards’ Association was scarcely a year old, our magazine Education Today began its long run. Throughout its dozens of issues, the publication has always provided high-quality, award-winning independent journalism with outstanding professional analysis of Ontario’s provincial education trends.
However, our Association is not able to escape the fact that the print medium is facing unprecedented financial pressures. Advertising is disappearing and readerships are shrinking or moving online, where smartphone, tablet and laptop users can acquire the knowledge they need instantaneously, and often, for free.
Education Today is not alone in being affected by this shift to online publishing. As a result, the Fall 2017 edition will be the magazine’s final print issue. The next issue, Spring 2018, will be found online in some capacity in mid-winter.
