“Today’s announcement is a step in the right direction for school boards across the province. The government listened to the input from parents, school boards and other education partners and was responsive to the needs expressed. We’re pleased that additional funding is being provided to support students with Autism Spectrum Disorder as of April 1 and that Special Education funding will be stable for the 2019-20 school year. This continues to be an area in which boards request more supports and resources given the complexities of student needs. Many boards consistently exceed their Ministry allocated special education budget. Providing more training for teachers in the area of ASD will also be beneficial to the system. We will continue to look for opportunities to work with the government to find solutions that result in positive outcomes for students.”
